For some people, any truck will do; they are typically looking for something they can count on each day, with great functionality and the ability to do some light towing here and there. But if you want a powerful, heavy-duty truck like the Ford Super Duty models, then you have different needs, so it's vital you get the right pickup ready to deliver what you're looking for.

So, if you're looking for a Ford F-350 for sale, you probably have specific needs that have to be met, like big towing requirements or a powerful diesel engine that will keep going strong for well over 100,000 miles. Ford gives you plenty of options to choose from with the F-350 to ensure you can find what you need. Today, we're going to take you through many of the highlights of the 2025 F-350 and guide you through the decisions you need to make as you look for your next heavy-duty truck.

Four Powerful Powertrains to Choose From

Figuring out where to start when looking at the 2025 Ford F-350 can be tricky because you have a number of big decisions to make. You could start with the bigger picture and consider different configurations first, but we like checking out the engines available before anything else. Your engine has a huge impact on the kind of experience you get driving your pickup each day, along with the capabilities it has. We'll get into the specifics of towing and payload a bit later, but just remember that the engine you choose directly affects how much weight your F-350 can handle.

The starting engine for the 2025 Ford F-350 is a 6.8L V8 gas engine that offers 405 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. For a heavy-duty truck like this, it's plenty of power for many drivers, and it comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission (as all four engines do). If you're looking for enhanced performance, there's a 7.3L V8 gas engine that delivers 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. This isn't a huge increase (especially compared to what we're about to see), but it's noticeable, and this is the way to go if you want a gas engine with the most power for your F-350.

Ford also offers two diesel engines for this truck, starting with a 6.7L Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 engine that provides 475 hp and an incredible 1,050 lb-ft of torque. You can see that this is a huge boost over the torque provided by the two gas engines we looked at, so keep that in mind when considering your options. For the most power available, there's a High Output (HO) version of this diesel engine offered by Ford that delivers 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. This is a monstrous performance that simply can't be beaten, ensuring you have a powerful truck you know you can count on day after day.

Four Configurations and Two Rear-Wheel Options

Once you have a sense of which engine might be best for you, then it's important to consider the different configurations available for the 2025 Ford F-350. You actually have more choices offered to you by Ford than you might expect, ensuring you can get the perfect pickup that meets your heavy-duty needs.

For starters, you have three different cab sizes to choose from: a Regular Cab with a single row of seats, a Super Cab that gives you a second row of seating, and a Crew Cab with a more spacious back row. Note that your passengers get more room in the bigger options, but you also get more cargo space behind the front seat: about 10 cu.ft. in the Regular Cab, 30 cu.ft. in the Super Cab, and more than 53 cu.ft. in the Crew Cab.

In addition to this decision, you also have two different truck beds to consider for the F-350, though your options are more limited than you might think at first glance. Both the Regular Cab and Super Cab are only available with an eight-foot bed that gives you about 98 inches of interior length (at the floor), plus 50 inches of width at the wheelhouses and nearly 67 inches of maximum width. If you go with the Crew Cab, then you can choose between this eight-foot bed and a 6.75-foot bed that has an interior length of about 82 inches at the floor and the same widths. If you know you want the eight-foot bed, then you can choose whichever cab you want, but picking the shorter bed limits your options.

One vital decision when shopping for a Ford F-350 is the rear-wheel setup you want. Like the Ford F-150 and F-250, the F-350 is available with a single rear-wheel (SRW) configuration, but this model is also offered with a dual rear-wheel (DRW) setup that gives you a pair of wheels on each end of the rear axle; this enhances how much weight your truck can handle, and we'll see it has a big impact on payload and gooseneck/fifth-wheel towing. (Note that you can't get the short bed with a DRW setup—only the eight-foot bed—but all three cabs are available.)

Get the Kind of Towing and Capability You Need

As we said earlier, your choice of engine has a big impact on the towing and payload capacities of your truck, but other factors also play a major role. It would be excessive for us to go over every combination and the capabilities you can get from it, but just remember to look at the specific ratings for any truck you're interested in. To get a sense of how things affect the work your pickup can do, consider the maximum conventional towing for each engine if you choose an SRW setup:

  • 6.8L V8: 18,100 lbs
  • 7.3L V8: 19,500 lbs
  • 6.7L Diesel: 23,200 lbs
  • HO Diesel: 25,000 lbs

You can see some dramatic differences there. Taking things even further, here are the maximum fifth-wheel/gooseneck towing capacities for each engine with a DRW setup:

  • 6.8L V8: 18,900 lbs
  • 7.3L V8: 22,500 lbs
  • 6.7L Diesel: 36,400 lbs
  • HO Diesel: 38,000 lbs

Again, the differences are quite noteworthy and can be very dramatic. This is why it's important you take some time to understand exactly what you need your truck to be able to do before you make these decisions. The last thing you want is a pickup that's not up to the job to help you get your work done, but you also don't want to pay too much for more than you need. We're always happy to help you explore these options and assist you in figuring out what combination of features is right for you.

Five Trim Levels for Creating the Perfect Pickup

Finally, as you look at the F-350, remember that it has five different trim levels for you to choose from. Going with the starting XL trim gets you the standard 6.8L engine, 17-inch wheels, and tech features that include an eight-inch infotainment display and a 4.2-inch productivity screen. The XLT trim enhances the interior with an eight-way power driver's seat and cloth seating rather than the standard vinyl seats.

If you choose the Lariat trim, then you get numerous upgrades, including a 12-inch SYNC 4 infotainment system and 12-inch Digital Instrument Cluster productivity screen, along with more comfortable seating. The King Ranch has a leather interior, enhanced tech (including a head-up display), and 20-inch wheels. Finally, the Platinum trim adds power deployable running boards, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 14-speaker B&O Unleashed premium sound system.
